Noisepoetnobody: CONCRETE VITALIST – album review by The Progressive Aspect

December 22, 2019 by Joy Von Spain

“To my mind, this experimental music thrives on one person’s audience participation. Your imagination is a vital instrument that you must employ to derive any kind of reward from such music. Concrete Vitalist shows this perfectly.” – read the entire review HERE

NOISEPOETNOBODY: Cvlt Nation Streams Concrete Vitalist From Experimental Sound Architect; Record To See Release Friday Via Scry Recordings

November 20, 2019 by Joy Von Spain

Cvlt Nation is currently streaming Concrete Vitalist, the latest full-length from experimental sound architect Casey Chittenden Jones, otherwise known as NOISEPOETNOBODY, in its curious entirety.

Set for release Friday, November 22nd via Scry Recordings, Concrete Vitalist  was recorded, mixed, and mastered by Jones with layout by Zach Wise. The audio collected for Concrete Vitalist’s four movements includes performances on city sculptures and utility structures with a contact mic, destruction of major road over passes, hummingbirds in violent confrontation, and an old decaying piano harp with e-bows pressed towards strings and rusty nails thrown into it. Angular minimalist synthesizer textures interact with sounds from other times and places. Reconstructed reality for imaginational dreamscape soundtracks.

Write Cvlt Nation of the release, “NOISEPOETNOBODY makes end of times music. But it’s unlike most music we describe as ‘apocalyptic’… This is the sound of post-apocalypse; a quiet shuddering of what remains of human civilization. It’s the creak of useless metal and the static hum of wasted land. It’s the slow crawling of nature as it swallows the framework of our creation and buries it in ancient history… Concrete Vitalist may not be something you throw on to jam out to, but it’s something that will captivate your imagination and take you to a world we’re fast approaching…”

Stream NOISEPOETNOBODY’s Concrete Vitalist, exclusively at Cvlt Nation, at THIS LOCATION.

Concrete Vitalist will see release on CD and digital formats November 22nd. For preorders, visit the NOISEPOETNOBODY Bandcamp page at THIS LOCATION.

For well over fifteen years, Jones has been soundtracking the collapse of civilization under the moniker NOISEPOETNOBODY utilizing homemade instruments, synthesizers, field recordings, and modular equipment to create haunting, discordant, and broken sounds to express the need for creativity in a dying ecosystem.

Performing in underground venues, bars, art galleries, abandon buildings, and illegal DIY spaces and forever seeking to promote mental deprogramming through anti-commercial sonic immersion, each NOISEPOETNOBODY set is a one-of-a-kind exchange of energy employing analog electronics and improvised inspirations via speaker cones. NOISEPOETNOBODY has collaborated frequently with Butoh dance artists and released a 12” (The River) with choreography instructions composed by Vanessa Skantze.

Most commonly associated with the genres experimental, minimalism, noise, industrial, drone, his solo works and collaborations have been released by Scry Recordings (Drone Box, 2019), Lens Records, and Public Eyesore, among others. NOISEPOETNOBODY has participated in numerous festivals and series including NorCal Noise Fest, Perpetual Dune, Eugene Noise Fest, Olympia Experimental Music Festival, and Modular On The Spot. Jones also originated the Driftwood Orchestra, Seattle Dismal Fest and currently joins Peter Keller in the duo Dosenöffner.

“With masterful construction, something as benign as two hummingbirds having a slight confrontation becomes menacing and unsettling, and the sounds of urban living and urban destruction wind around it. This is soundscaping at its finest.” — Toilet Ov Hell

ENTRAIL: Cascadian Experimental Drone Project To Release Eater Of Starlight / New Track Streaming + Live Dates Draw Near

August 24, 2019 by Joy Von Spain

Cascadian experimental drone project ENTRAIL will release Eater Of Starlight via Scry Recordings 9/4 (digital) & 10/1 (cassette).

ENTRAIL emerges from the gloom-shrouded Pacific Northwest with vocal drone and ethereal soundscapes that haunt and challenge. Combining violin, voice, bass and synth, ENTRAIL’s sound is as broad as its musical history. playing in crust bands, booking DIY spaces, and attending music school for violin and composition, ENTRAIL graduated to this moody, dynamic solo project of present. Over the last five years, ENTRAIL has shared stages with the likes of Neurosis’ Scott Kelly, The Body, Dispririt, Yob’s Mike Scheidt, and Aerial Ruin.

Eater Of Starlight broods, simmers, and explodes in short bursts of emotive vocals (“Rain”) and brash, inventive strings (“Craving”) punctuated with throbbing synthesizers. Dwelling in spiritual residence with Slint, Jarboe, and Bohren & Der Club Of Gore, on this third release, ENTRAIL feels like an outpouring of the artist’s soul for listener resonance.

Notes ENTRAIL, “This album for me was a falling-upward into an offworld headspace. I felt ungrounded and found myself conveying the terror of that journey. My intention, when I started writing this music, was to offer some kind of healing after my last album, which was focused on themes of impending ecological collapse. What came out though was more catharsis, more darkness. I cannot offer resolved healing through this music because I am not there yet myself — I still have to work with these demonic sensations; I still have to find my way back to Earth after dissociating from it so hard.”

Eater Of Starlight was captured b by Ethan Camp and mastered by M.S. Waldron with art by ENTRAIL and Adam St. John. The record will be released digitally via Scry Recordings September 4th with a limited cassette edition to follow.

For preorders and to stream first single, “The Cup,” go to THIS LOCATION.

Eater Of Starlight Track Listing:
1. Dark Moon
2. Cathartidae
3. Rain
4. The Cup
5. Craving
6. Dust Of Dreamers

SATARAY: Indy Metal Vault Premieres “Maleficum Pt. 1” From Dark Ambient Project; Nocturnum Full-Length To See Release Via Scry Recordings

March 16, 2019 by Joy Von Spain

“…an embracing of the dark – a work that establishes dominion over the night’s destructive forces by first meeting them where they are and living among them…. There’s an unmistakable energy coursing through these compositions, and the open listener will be able to feel it washing over him or herself in waves.” — Indy Metal Vault

Stream / Share SATARAY’s “Maleficum Pt. 1” At THIS LOCATION

Nocturnum is the imminent debut full-length from one-woman dark ambient project SATARAY. Recorded and mixed by SATARAY and mastered by Casey Chittenden Jones (Noisepoetnobody) with imagery by ritual artist Anima Nocturna, the deeply ominous  seven-song offering seamlessly mingles lingering whispers, diseased howls, and mournful incantations within a realm inhabited by exquisite synth lines, masterful ambience, hypnotic rhythms, and entrancing production.

In advance of its release, Indy Metal Vault is pleased to unveil “Maleficum Pt. 1.” Issues SATARAY of the track, “‘Maleficum’ is a two-piece composition, Part 1 and 2 being very different aesthetically but stemming from the same source. Although the particular subject content is very complex and personal, the intent is simply an invocation to dispel malefic energies and cleanse one’s karmic past.”

Adds Indy Metal Vault, “SATARAY takes the MIDI synths and other electronic hallmarks of dark ambient and adds in tribal rhythms, forming a mesmeric base for the vocals. This is where Nocturnum truly stands out – the layers of vocals, whispers, growls, and screams, intoning words of great power from languages long forgotten if they ever existed at all. There’s an unmistakable energy coursing through these compositions, and the open listener will be able to feel it washing over him or herself in waves.”

Succumb to the sounds of SATARAY’s “Maleficum Pt. 1” courtesy of Indy Metal Vault at THIS LOCATION.

Nocturnum will be released on April 5th as a limited-edition cassette and digitally via Bandcamp. For preorders, go to, sataray.bandcamp.com/album/nocturnum where opening track “DarkMoon” can be streamed.

SATARAY will play a special record release show April 26th with additional live rituals to be announced in the weeks to come.

SATARAY Live:
4/26/2019 Highline Bar – Seattle, WA w/ Vouna, Eye Of Nix, Geist & The Sacred Ensemble [tickets]

SATARAY has been active since 2006 through many different incarnations, including live performances and recording collaborations with Seattle experimental musician Celadon. Over the last few years, SATARAY has been composing, performing, and recording her own music entirely, focusing intently on a specific sound. Her live displays create a ritualistic space and atmosphere, often including performance art elements such as butoh dance and other movement inspiration. She has participated in the Cascadian Yule gathering, and appeared at the Esoteric Book Conference, Passiontide, ShadowDance, and more, bringing her live immersive experience to Berlin, Colombia, the US West Coast, and the Pacific Northwest.

GEIST & THE SACRED ENSEMBLE: Pacific Northwest Experimental Doom Folk Collective To Release Dig In Sessions: III Via Scry Recordings; Live Dates Announced

March 16, 2019 by Joy Von Spain

One of the Pacific Northwest’s hidden societies, GEIST & THE SACRED ENSEMBLE forge a doom-inflected folk ritualism; dirges tinged with Eastern psychedelia and meandering meditative trances. For the last several years, the group has shown the Washington state underground a clear vision for their sound and lyrics – creating a shamanistic space for the listener, placing them into a trance, then building up the excitement. The overarching theme of their lyrical work is that of an idealist, a yearning for an end to the modern human condition, for destruction of the constructs & constraints of oppression. The group has appeared many times at Thirst For Light and on Hollow Earth Radio.

GEIST & THE SACRED ENSEMBLE bring their hypnotic and emotionally-charged live show to a wider audience this spring with a west coast tour. For this occasion, on March 31st, Scry Recordings is releasing Dig In Sessions: III, a cassette with two musical hypnosis sessions from the vault, recorded by the group and mastered by MS Waldron (Nurse With Wound, irr.app.ext).

Issues the band, “What is that, you ask? Over the years (2012-present) we have recorded most of our practices. Sometimes, practice turns into improvised playing and listening which we call ‘digs.’ We say ‘digs’ because whether you’re digging a hole or creating music in the moment, it is the terrain that dictates the approach. The dig could become a foundation for something bigger than itself or covered up and forgotten. We want to share a side of our sound that you may not always hear.”

Excerpts from the tape which was mastered by Mastered by MS Waldron can be heard at GEIST & THE SACRED ENSEMBLE’s official bandcamp page here: geistthesacredensemble.bandcamp.com.

XIPHOID DEMENTIA And BASTARD NOISE: Human Extinction Engine Split LP To See Release This March; Video Teaser Posted + Preorders Available

January 17, 2019 by Joy Von Spain

Human Extinction Engine is the upcoming split record between the throttling yet textured death industrial of XIPHOID DEMENTIA and the harsh space ambience of BASTARD NOISE. Conceptually, both artists unite in seeing a world where humans slowly tighten the noose around their own neck through “advancement” and “industry.” Yet each artist reflects this concept in very different ways.

On side A, XIPHOID DEMENTIA turns inward with cryptic spoken samples and delivers one track of pummeling industrial, one track of seething dark ambience, and concludes his piece with a martial industrial anthem. On side B, BASTARD NOISE explodes outward with clear cut lyrics delivered with his token death growls on tracks that range from textured harsh noise, to cosmic ambience.

Experience the video trailer HERE.

Human Extinction Engine will be released on March 1st on LP and digitally via a joint venture among Scry Recordings, Existence Establishment, and Phage Tapes. Preorders are currently available now via all labels or directly through BASTARD NOISE. Follow the links below.

“TO END IT ALL’s Scourge Of Woman full-length sounds like what would happen if drone/doom purveyors Khanate were forced into a blender with noisemakers Pharmakon and Lingua Ignota and forced to conduct devilish rituals.” — Decibel

“TO END IT ALL’s Scourge Of Woman full-length sounds like what would happen if drone/doom purveyors Khanate were forced into a blender with noisemakers Pharmakon and Lingua Ignota and forced to conduct devilish rituals, “ observes the esteemed publication of the release, adding, “Vocalist Joy Von Spain and noise architect Masaaki Masao subscribe to the belief that less is more, letting rumbling power electronics and droning noise merge with Von Spain’s operatic clean singing and possessed shrieks.”
