Drawing from dark ambient, power electronics, death industrial & black noise, since 2001 SCARD has combined their personal origins in the forested regions of Oregon with eventual scum of city life to create a harsh, layered and multi-faceted sound.

SCARD began in 2001 in Seattle, moving to Portland a year later. Drawing from dark ambient, power electronics, death industrial, & black noise, SCARD combines their personal origins in the forested regions of Oregon with eventual scum of city life to create a harsh, layered and multi-faceted sound.

Over the last 19 years SCARD has shared stages with Sixes, Bloodyminded, Daniel Menche, Control, To End It All, The Rita, Wolf Eyes, John Wiese, Blue Sabbath Black Cheer, Sleeping with the Earth, Pharmakon, Dave Phillips, Sudden Infant, Consumer Electronics & more. In US noise underground world SCARD has ripped up Pent Up Fest in Seattle 2014, Pure Harsh Noise Worship in Portland 2012, Northeast Noise & Power Electronics Festival in Boston 2009, & Black Noise Festival at Terminal 2007 as well as many DIY venues in the PNW.

In addition to this solo endeavor J. Huston is the guitarist, vocalist & producer of the atmospheric black metal band Winter In The Blood. Drawing from black, doom, and death metal with a bit of noise and drone experimentation, the 4-piece released Forest Fires in 2015 through Portland imprint Fog Palace.

Huston also appears on the avant-garde black metal ensemble L’Acephale’s 2019 album Sovereignty (released by Eisenwald), which Decibel Magazine noted “…bridges the gap between the more traditional sounds of neofolk and post-industrial music with blistering, melodic, empowered black metal.”
