"This release...features Masaaki Masao on electronics in collaboration with highly prolific dark chanteuse Joy Von Spain (vocals, gong, piano & lyrics). A rather bleak release I must say! Heavy lyrical subject matters of insanity, isolation, suffering, disease and death, with stark ‘death industrial’ soundscapes that resemble a field recording of an apocalyptic sermon - much in the vein of genre classics such as Diamanda Galás’s “Plague Mass” and Current 93’s “Nature Unveiled” & “Live At Bar Maldoror”. Yes it IS freaky & unsettling. The packaging is rather elaborate with carefully designed j-card and lyric book with a sticker included. Pressed on pro-tape. My personal favorite is the crushing, almost ‘black noise’-esque opening track ‘Beast Filth’, but M.M.’s sonics are consistently intriguing and dynamic throughout the release. An excellent collaboration that will please fans of all things bleak & morbid. Here, let me just include the lyrics of the a capella title track right here for good measure: “Be Ablaze / Conflagrate / Cauterize / Brand / Scald / Exacerbate / Torch / Desire / Seduce / Lure / Delude / Entice / Erode / Consume / Seduce / Lure” Underground Tape Review 11-09-17
